Volivoli Beach Resort is committed to assisting change to our oceans and environment . This starts with education . Last weekend Volivoli Beach Resort staff and management held another event at the resort with the focus being on the environment and our oceans in support of World Oceans Day.
Resort General Manager and Darling family spokesperson Nick Darling said
“We had 40 children involved in this weekend events including 24 children from Naria Primary School.
The main message to students and children was to reduce single use plastics and to the years of devastation that these items are causing to the environment and marine life.
The students participated in foreshore clean-up among the mangroves at Volivoli Point and afterwards we had some fun beach games afterwards including sack races and tug-of-war, then an education session on how single use plastics harms the environment followed by a picnic lunch and certificate of participation presentations.
Volivoli Beach Resort is also very active with Mangroves Fiji and plays a major role with the Vatu-i-Ra Conservation Park.
Overall the World Environment Day 2018 and World’s Oceans Day 2018 weekend at Volivoli Beach Resort attracted 77-participants and we collected an estimated 1,000kg of waste from the foreshore keeping the Suncoast one of Fiji’s most pristine regions.
We also gave away in excess of $11,500.00 in prizes to our hard working and lucky volunteers over the weekend. It was an incredible event and we will continue with our ongoing commitment to the community and our environment in our region.”
