Roatan International Lionfish Tournament announced

The 2018 Roatan International Lionfish Tournament has just been announced. Slated for Saturday October 13, the event is the first of its kind on Roatan and will follow the highly successful “lionfish derby” format used in the Florida Keys and other Caribbean Islands.

According to event organizer Buck Beasley, the event will be island-wide and proceeds raised will help to fund lionfish education and research in the region. Some of the prizes include:

$1000US for most Lionfish by a 4-man team.
$250 Largest by Male Hunter
$250 Largest by Female Hunter.
$100 Smallest fish Male and Female hunters.

There will also be a Sunday Lionfish Cookoff where cash prizes will be awarded.

Registration for the event is Friday October 12 at Lionfish Louie’s. Sponsors of the event so far include Lionfish Louie’s, Subway Watersports, DiveNewswire, and others.
