The staff at Rainbow Reef Divers has been very active following Hurricane Irma. According to General Manager Billy Wise, survey boats have already checked out the reefs and local waters around Key Largo. Here is his report ALONG with link to a post Hurricane Irma photo galley.
One of the biggest questions we received in calls and emails after the storm was “What about the reef?” We took a staff trip out the the reefs and wrecks of Key Largo on Sept 17th 2017.
All in all the reef had the expected changes like sand being shifted or landing on top of the reef, and some soft corals displaced, but also the algae is gone too and that is a good thing for the reef. All in all it will take a few tides and a little time for the sand to resettle, but things are looking pretty good.
