PADI Mobilizes Divers to be a Force for Good

The PADI® organization is committed to being a catalyst for change through the implementation of global programs that encourage social and environmental responsibility. By inspiring its network of more than 6400 dive centers and resorts, 133,000 dive professionals, and millions of divers around the globe who all share a common passion for the ocean, PADI aims to make a significant impact on key issues facing the dive industry – and the entire planet.

The Four Pillars of Change, introduced at the DEMA Show 2016, are the foundation of PADI’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. PADI pledges to take an active stance on these social and environmental issues and invites all divers to do the same:

  1. Ocean Health: Take action and support global efforts to ensure a healthy ocean. Continue to partner with Project AWARE® in its efforts to remove marine debris from dive sites and forge partnerships with organizations that are creating positive and lasting impact on the underwater world.
  2. Marine Animal Protection: Protect marine life biodiversity and elevate voices to save sharks and rays by supporting Project AWARE and other organizations that work to implement protection laws, enact legislation and educate the public.
  3. People and Community: Help build important diving infrastructure and support training of local people in dive destinations to foster sustainability.
  4. Health and Wellness: Spotlight inspiring stories of triumph over adversity, illness and hardships that testify to diving’s healing power. In diving, many people have found hope for their futures and the PADI organization aims to inspire others to find similar personal transformation and healing, both mentally and physically.

PADI’s Four Pillars of Change serve as a platform to empower divers with information to get involved with causes they care about in a tangible way. To maximize efforts, PADI is seeking out partnerships with like-minded organizations whose goals align with the Four Pillars initiative. Creating synergy with other specialized change-agents will provide more opportunities for global impact and lasting change.

“PADI is committed to be a force for good,” says PADI Worldwide President and CEO Drew Richardson. “We’re privileged to have a powerful legacy to inspire us. By empowering divers and connecting them to the PADI family and global issues relevant to the dive industry, we can help make the world a better place and become an even more powerful catalyst for change. By engaging divers more effectively at the local level globally, global change is inevitable.”

The PADI family embodies tremendous human strength with the potential to make a positive difference. Together, we will elevate our purpose as an organization and as passionate individuals and continue to inspire action for the benefit of our ocean, our planet and our local communities.

PADI Members and divers are driving change every day and PADI wants to share their stories to inspire others to do the same. If you have a story you want to share, email fourpillarsofchange@padi.com.
