Atomic Aquatics introduces the first Buoyancy Compensator (BC) designed and manufactured by the company – the BC1. The Atomic BC1 redefines conventional BC design in the use of unique materials and revolutionary new engineering designs for the integrated weight system, tank band, and many innovative features.
The Atomic BC1 design team of seven industry professionals with 152 years of collective diving equipment experience employed a “design studio” approach to reexamine every detail and wreak havoc on traditional BC designs. Every single component of the BC1 is rethought and crafted for durability, performance and ease-of-use.
“There is absolutely nothing like it,” declared Dean Garraffa, Atomic Aquatics co-founder and president. “We wanted a world-class BC…so we designed one. The new Atomic BC1 is for the diver who wants the absolute BEST available,” Garraffa stated.
The materials utilized to make the BC1 both tough and attractive feature exclusive double-laminated polyurethane coated waterproof fabric. Unlike any other BC, the custom matte-finish fabric has a different look and feel, both tough and beautiful, designed to hold up year after year. Coated on both sides and completely waterproof, the BC1 is virtually dry immediately after a dive.
Garraffa offered a unique comparison for the beauty and toughness of the BC1 fabric. “Imagine if you combined a fine leather Ferrari seat with a saddle…it’s like that,” he related.
The patented EZ-LOK Integrated Weight Release System (U.S. Patent 9,296,451) is the easiest weight system ever designed, enabling divers to quickly, easily load weights while in or out of the water. Two zippered weight pouches, each holding up to 10 pounds of hard or soft weights, smoothly glide into the weight pockets and lock into place with a reassuring “SNAP.” A simple one-handed tug on the handle is all it takes to release.
The BC1 integrates another Atomic design exclusive – the ratcheting CAM-LOK Tank Band and Backpack. Similar to the bindings on ski boots and snowboards, the ratcheting band quickly adjusts to accommodate a variety of tank sizes. A diver just pushes the molded belt teeth past the ratchet and locks it down with minimal effort. The over-center buckle locks everything tightly in place. The incredibly strong one-piece band won’t slip, won’t stretch, won’t absorb water and is completely sealed from the elements. No more wetting a nylon band before mounting and no more weaving it through a buckly.
Many other aspects of the new Atomic Aquatics BC1 are designed to be exclusive, including:
- Custom 316 Stainless Steel D-Rings with Titanium PVD Coating
- Diamond Pattern Quilted Backpad and Adjustable Lumbar Pad
- Sand-Resistant Pocket Zippers
Divers can choose to equip the BC1 with performance air inflation and safe second options, including the streamlined Atomic SS1 Safe Second, available in Titanium or Stainless Steel. Or they can dive with a high-performance pairing of an Atomic Octo and the Ai Power Inflator. Inflator/safe second options are sold separately, allowing divers to choose the option that best meets their diving style.
The Atomic Aquatics BC1 is available in two color options – Black, and Black with Red Accents. Limited sizes are now available in S, M, ML, L and XL.
