March 27, 2007, New York, NY—With more than 650 members in only eight months of existence, Oceanblue Divers has quickly become New York City’s largest and fastest-growing dive club. Last weekend, the group made a big splash in its introduction to the dive industry at Beneath the Sea, America’s largest consumer scuba and dive travel show.
With a corps of nearly 50 members dressed in the group’s eye-catching “Wetter is Better” T-shirts working as Beneath the Sea volunteers, the club enjoyed a high-profile industry unveiling. Exhibitors and Beneath the Sea staff members alike were abuzz about the impression that Oceanblue Divers made in the exhibit hall. Over the course of the weekend, the club collected names from more than 200 booth visitors, and spoke with countless other interested people.
“Our maiden voyage at Beneath the Sea couldn’t have been better,” said Oceanblue Divers founder Michael Feld. “We met the dive industry and the industry met Oceanblue in a big way. We got to tell the OBD story to key industry players like Mares, Olympus and others, while meeting scuba diving legends like Stan Waterman, John Chatterton and Richie Kohler.”
Oceanblue Divers plans to capitalize on the increased visibility by hosting even bigger and better events and dive trips. Dan Crowell, captain of the SEEKER, will be the featured guest speaker at the April 3 happy hour at Mannahatta Restaurant and Lounge in Manhattan; and world-renowned underwater photographer Stephen Frink will join Oceanblue Divers on a “Dive ‘n’ Dash” Memorial Day Weekend trip to Key Largo co-sponsored by Scuba Diving Magazine.
