The Underwater Channel (www.theunderwaterchannel.tv), the global web TV channel for divers, filmed the highlights of the 2009 DEMA show in Orlando, Florida. If you’re not already familiar with their programming, they offer 24-hour on-demand diving videos on the web, for free! It’s a great way to keep up with the latest news on diving from around the world, on virtually every interest area in diving.
The DEMA Show is the only international trade-only event for the diving industry, open only to diving professionals. The 2009 DEMA program features around 40 companies, including such well-known firms as PADI, DAN, and Scubapro, showing off their latest new products and services. However, many firms that are new to the diving market in the U.S. were also covered, such as Uemis, who introduced one of several OLED (organic light emitting displays) dive computers shown by various firms.
New training materials and programs from IANTD, PSAI, and TDI are also explained in the program. In addition, The Underwater Channel also included coverage of many websites, such as Wet Pixel, DivePhotoGuide, artist Pascal Lecoq and diving jewelry designs from Torgny Designs. Additionally, the program takes viewers behind the scenes inside an AquaLung repair seminar, and features interviews with the Historical Diving Society, as well as DEMA’s executive director, Tom Ingram. Whether you want to find out what’s new in dive travel, or see the latest underwater video housings, it’s all covered in The Underwater Channel’s DEMA Show 2009 highlights.
Overseeing the program was The Underwater Channel’s founder and Managing Director, Nicholas Claxton. Steadicam operator Adam Parkes drew lots of attention on the show floor as he raced throughout the show to capture the action. The two on-camera personalities and presenters were divers Steve Barsky and Laura James. Barsky operates Marine Marketing & Consulting (www.marinemkt.com) and Hammerhead Press. James is a well-known tech diving instructor, and is director of sales and marketing for She-P North America (http://web.mac.com/ljjames/homepage/She-P.html).
